Recently the Openai’s Chatgpt went viral on Taiwanese news. People discuss it like crazy. I am taking German news translation class in Taipei every Friday after I get off work, and even those articles, which have always been chose carefully by our teacher from “Der Spiegel” (A decent German magazine like “Times” in US.). That article is talking about the story of Blake Lemoine and GOOGLE’s chat robot LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications). Beside talking about LaMDA might has its own consciousness, it also mentioned about Chatgpt. Therefore, I found that this might be the most in topic around our globe now.
What do Pessimist think about AI ?
Since someone had been banging each other on the driver’s seat of Tesla, while using autopilot mode, it’s not too hard to image how many bus-driver or truck-driver will going to be replaced by AI in the future. So, I won’t emphasize these jobs.
For a long time, we get used to that machine or AI is just good at repetitive boring things, that many people consider wasting life. However, Chatgpt has brought AI’s threat to the brand new high. There are many articles talking about how Robot with this kind of level’s ability might going to impact those white-collar careers, like lawyer, doctor, Teacher and started to suggest what kind of ability we have to own, in order to survive in this ever-changing modern Era. Cause AI think quicker, do faster, and now even can do some creative things, like help you to write the thesis!
What do I really think about AI ?
You know, as a Conservatives and a big fan of the movie series “Terminator”, I once believed that the Robot will destroy the world and the savior John conner will going to save human beings. After I got older and older, I have gained some more knowledge of AI. I would say so far it seems to be that it wouldn’t be that bad, it is still following the process like: Someone punching in data inside a “platform “and robots arrange things and analyze things and do what someone told them to do, just the outcome is outstand and our performing human beings.
Simply speak: instruction – machine/AI – performance
It’s not like a living organic creature, it functions by itself, and has its own consciousness or maybe soul (If you believe in parapsychology.) It still follows the order or instruction, which are generated by human beings. Doesn’t matter how good, smart, efficient or amazing Ai and Robot is, so far it still works in such a way.
Hence, I would still define it as a tool. If we talk about a tool, you can make it do the decent, noble thing or evil, degrading thing. Like a knife, you can use it to taste a stake in restaurant, you can also use it to hurt someone or defend yourself.
AI is an efficient Tool and Tool is neutral
I would say AI is neutral, and it makes our world more efficient, both in a good or bad way. Ai for me is like adding a wing on a tiger, it means get super overpower in our traditional saying. Despite some crazy government and scientists using or testing it in harmful ways. Many scientists use it to make our life better and defend the peace.
My Midjourney AI painting experience
My friend “mad dog” is a mysterious person on the digital internet world. He has many names throughout his life time, it makes me feel like many heroic characters in the novel or comics, like Xu Wenwu has many names in different era according to the marvel movie “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”. He was once Kobe881138, and then Vincent, Arthum (I prefer to call it R-tone, because it is exactly sounds like that in German), now because of our future gym business, he has a nick name call “mad dog”. R-tone wanted to design a logo of “mad dog”.
He started to use discord and Midjourney to generate his mad dog image, however he couldn’t visualize his imagination by using Midjourney, with his limited instruction. I tried it as well, of course not the style he wants (it stays in his own brain), but I had made something cool.
My friend R-tone was asking about what kind of instruction did I punch in? cause his instruction was like :

Irony and make fun of each other are what we use to keep our good brotherhood. R-tone admited that my painting is cooler. I told R-tone that, you know the golden rule of using AI, AI need humans instruction. If you are a elementary school student, who wants to create an image. You might punch in “dog, yellow, real, running” + teacher I have got no idea. So, the point is if your brain is simple and your neurone connections are sparse. AI will reflect how simple your brain is.
R-tone was laughing badly and almost lose his gentle temper, he said “ I got what you meant, you know I want the line of van gogh! You know that AI just can’t generate it, I couldn’t describe that image to you, but that dog must be dope ! dope ! you know, like fxxking outrageously arrogant !” I make fun of him “Oh! so you couldn’t describe it! “We were laughing even badly. My friend R-tone said “you are right, I might have to think about it”.
Is AI generated Painting really an art work?
I believe more or less; my lovely audience might have read about the news of an art work called “Théâtre D’opéra Spatial” (Space Opera Theater) ,which generated by midjourney and edited by Photoshop and won the first place of human’s drawing competition.
For me it’s an art work and it’s a painting! The creator of this art work, Jason M. Allen he tried hundreds of times to punch in tons of complicated instructions to create his dream image. He personally doesn’t have ability to use his own hand to paint such master piece, as I know.
Is Stephen Hawking really talking?
My friend R-tone was agreed with my view point, because I said if finishing a painting is basically draw out your ideal image inside your brain. Doesn’t matter if you go with hand its painting and yes if you go with feet, it is painting as well, or even if you go with any part of your own body that’s painting. So why is using tons of words to instruct AI for creating the image out of your brain not a painting?
R-tone said yes, it makes me think about is Stephen Hawking really talking? while he couldn’t use his own mouth to talk but through his super wheelchair.
Humartificial Intelligence!
I am suck at drawing, I have tons of idea and image inside my brain but I couldn’t visualize it. It’s just like, I have only limited words to express my strong emotion. AI for me is like Prosthesis, my glass of my shortsighted eye. I can simply punch in some instructions and this AI program will generate some paints for me. Now I don’t have to worry about there is no ideal image in my blog anymore.
Those paintings are amazing, I would say even if I take all my off work free time, practicing to be an amateur painter. I might not make it to that level in at least 10 years or even my whole life.
Human intelligence combine with the tool AI, I would call it” Humartificial intelligence”. Back to the first step of golden rule, you have to punch in instructions. So, in my humble opinion, in this ever-changing era, we don’t really have to focus on what kind of job will going to be replaced by AI and even worry about it. We have to make our brain smarter and use the AI in a potential way to make our life and human’s life be better.
Let’s just work on upgrading our brain and learn to use tool first!
